What's  on this page?

When I'm not working or sleeping, I try to develop useful programs using Visual Basic. Below are some examples of software tools for the laboratory:

These programs help you to calculate HPLC tubing volumesconcentrations of acids and bases or the resolution of LC-IR chromatograms collected with the LabConnections infrared interface. All software runs on Windows9x and Windows NT 4 (SP3 or higher). Sorry Mac users: I don not have plans to design them for Apple (ha!).

All programs can be executed over the internet, so no installation is necessary and you will always have the correct version! (The following files must be installed in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM on your computer: MSVBVM50.DLL and CMDLG32.OCX; more info)

How it works

Before you cut a piece of tubing, you can select the internal diameter (internal diameters available: 0.13 - 1.40 mm for PEEK and 0.005 - 0.055 inch for stainless steel tubing) and enter the desired tubing volume for your loop. As you know, it is almost impossible to cut this calculated length, so after cutting, measure the length, enter this value in the program and it calculates the exact tubing volume! Dilution Calculator

"I have to make a 500 mL 0.05 mol/L ammonia solution and on our lab we only have 32 %(V/V) solutions available. How do I do this??"

With this program you can make a selection from commercial available concentrations of the following acids and bases:

  • acetic acid (100.0; 85.0; 23.4; 5.97 %)
  • ammonia (32.0; 25.0; 7.04; 3.47 %)
  • hydrochloric acid (36.0; 13.7; 7.06; 3.60 %)
  • nitric acid 65.0; 22.4; 11.9; 6.12 %)
  • phosphoric acid (85.0 %)
  • potassium hydroxide (19.1; 10.3; 5.36 %)
  • sodium hydroxide (13.9; 7.42; 3.85 %)
  • sulfuric acid (98.0; 17.5; 9.26; 4.77 %)

Let the program calculate the volume of acid / base you have to add to obtain the desired final concentration and volume.
